The Sims : Questions : Answer
Answer

I click on a house but the game leaves the neighborhood on the screen and only updates some of it with the contents of the house. What's going on?

This can be a result of an outdated video driver or a video driver that is not DirectX 7 compliant.

Updating your video drivers is the best solution.

Another solution is to edit the properties of The Sims shortcut and add "-nodx6" to the end of the target text.

To do this:

  1. You'll need to modify the shortcut to The Sims. Browse to the Program Files>Maxis>The Sims directory (or whatever directory you've installed the game to), right click on Sims.EXE and drag it to your desktop, and select "Create Shortcut(s) Here".
  2. Once you have the shortcut on your desktop, right-click on it and select Properties.
  3. In the 'Target' field it should say "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe" (or the path to whichever folder it's installed to).
  4. Add -nodx6 to the end of this line (make sure to include a space before the -). Example: "C:\Program Files\Maxis\The Sims\Sims.exe" -nodx6
  5. Click APPLY and then CLOSE.
  6. Double-click the modified shortcut to run the game.
